Autumn's Big Draw at Sharpham Apple day

From : AONB and KEVICC

On a beautiful autumn day in October 2010 we celebrated the Big Draw with the Sharpham Trust above the River Dart. KEVICC and the AONB got together to offer art activities on Apple Day, as the final part of our joint RIVER project.

Traditional Chinese style painting

Plymouth based artist Xiao Bai Li introduced visitors to the secrets of traditional Chinese nature painting. Over the day dozens of people of all ages joined in to make beautiful paintings, inspired by the wildlife and landscape all around us on the estate.

Chalk and charcoal to capture the light and shade

Others enjoyed the tranquility as they tried out chalk and charcoal drawing, encouraged by Tim Wightman (KEVICC) and Sarah Scaife (AONB).  The view over the river from along the Ladies' Walk was perfect for this way of drawing, holding both bright sunshine and deep shade.

Thanks to Susie and colleagues at Sharpham for inviting us to contribute to the Apple Day. It was a real autumn treat.
