Whole AONB

From : Soundart Radio 102.5fm

Listen in

Listen in to hear how new life is breathed into traditional skills across the South Devon AONB. This programme covers wide ranging skills including thatching, wassailing and cider making, poultry keeping, and even singing, with songs passed down through families. All the skills are deeply linked to this beautiful and productive landscape.

Life and landscape series

The programme is part three of a series, ‘Life and landscape in the South Devon AONB.’ The series captures the story of changing times since the 1960s. The story is told in the voices of local people who live or work in the AONB, including farmers, fishermen, scientists, artists and local historians. 'Part 3: Traditional Skills' was first broadcast on Saturday 9 April 2011. It lasts for half an hour.

Recording fieldwork

To make these programmes the AONB teamed up with Soundart Radio 102.5FM, the licensed community radio station for Totnes and the surrounding villages: www.soundartradio.org.uk

Artist and photographer David Harbott documented the recording fieldwork. Here's his photo of Mike Pawluk, a thatcher at work within the AONB.
